Driven by Devin: The 2016 Audi S6

First, I should start by saying that I absolutely love Audi’s lineup of S and RS models. Everything they represent defines what a luxury performance car should be. The Audi’s are geared a bit more towards consumer luxury than performance (not your¬†Nissan GTR R35 or Alfa Romeo), but that doesn’t make them any less awesome.

For this next first-hand blog, I wanted to feature a car that is brand new in terms of the year, but has a bit of history behind it.

The 2016 Audi S6. Believe it or not, this model has been around since 1994 when it took over for the 90s S4 variant. It has been through four different redesigns over the years, with a minor facelift for the current 2016 model. The S6 is the higher performance version of the A6, with an even higher performance based model, the RS6. The S6 seems to be the perfect performance sedan; you can fit the family quite comfortably with space leftover without sacrificing performance. The S3 and S4 are a bit smaller and not quite as family friendly, the S5 is only available in 2 doors, and the S7 and S8 are quite spacious, but they jump up in price considerably from the S6. The S6, is that sort of middle ground.

The S6 comes standard with a 4.0L TFSI DOHC twin-turbo V8 heart combined with a 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch trans and permanent Quattro all-wheel drive to lay down 450hp/406lb-ft torque on the streets. It gets up to speed unexpectedly quick and drives beautifully. It is very easy to handle and its adaptive air suspension works to give you a smooth ride. A quad outlet sport exhaust produces a rumbling growl just loud enough to turn heads. Audi emphasizes its use of ultra lightweight materials that build the frame of the car, allowing it to accelerate faster and handle sharper. Weight reduction, bro.

This particular S6 is painted a sleek Daytona Gray Pearl effect, which gives it a varying degrees of grayish appearances depending on the lighting. Thanks to a Black Optic package, it has 20″ titanium finished 5-double-spoke wheels and gloss black trim that add to the sleekness and finish the car. The exterior of the 2016 model was redesigned a little bit from the 2015, with sharper, squared angles for a more aggressive look.

Next, the interior. This is where all the fun happens. This particular car has a full Valcona black leather interior with -my favorites- gorgeous diamond stitching and Carbon Atlas inlays. Drool… Gorgeously elegant and sporty. It is very comfortable and roomy inside, easily capable of fitting five people. The driver seat feels like it is specifically made to conform to your body with 12-way power adjustments.

Other fun features [can] include:

  • A top view/rear view camera system
  • Heated seats
  • Bose or Bang & Olufsen Sound system
  • A flat-bottom steering wheel (or a heated one that isn’t flat bottomed)
  • Adaptive cruise control, Active lane assist, and Audi side assist
  • Night vision assistant
  • LED headlights
  • Navigation and Bluetooth
  • Push button start
  • Paddle shifters
  • Sunroof
  • 12 different exterior color options and 4 interior color options

Performance meets elegance in the best way possible in these cars. The S6 is one aggressively beautiful car. I would definitely recommend driving one. Heck, maybe come in an buy it.
